Compounded semaglutide

A version of semaglutide made by a compounding pharmacy rather than the original manufacturer — not FDA-approved as a standalone product.

Compounded semaglutide is semaglutide prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy instead of being manufactured and sold as an FDA-approved product like Ozempic or Wegovy. It is often made during periods of brand-name drug shortages. The semaglutide shortage was declared resolved in February 2025 (external link), which narrowed when compounding is permitted.

Compounded versions are not FDA-approved, are not held to the same manufacturing and quality standards, and their safety and dosing accuracy has been a subject of regulatory scrutiny. That's worth discussing with a prescriber before use.
